That Really Cool Italian Cookbook
  • That Really Cool Italian Cookbook

That Really Cool Italian Cookbook is a cook book that was put together with an abundance of creativity, a great deal of skill, a wealth of knowledge and exorbitant amounts of Love. Not only is it full of recipes (from the more traditional like 'home-made potato gnocchi' to the more modern and eclectic 'prune morsels on apple sauce', from the simplest 'strawberries with prosecco' to the slightly more elaborate 'Mamma Alda’s roast pork'), we’ve also thrown in a whole bunch of other stuff that renders this book entertaining, enlightening, and even surprising. And as the back cover says, “…once the contents of this gem have been enjoyed, nonchalantly throw it on the coffee table for some light reading between meals”.

    • The Making of the book

That Really Cool Italian Cookbook is a concept book, and not a health book per-se, though we've changed certain traditional cooking processes to obtain a notably healthier & lighter result, without compromising that deliciousness Italian food is famous for. We've taken away the initial frying of onions & garlic, for example, and replaced it with a sauté in broth and/or white wine. We still have the oil, only it's Extra Virgin Olive Oil added uncooked at the 'fine cottura', the end of the cooking process. The recipes range from the simplest to the more elaborate, in the hope of exploiting the product to as wide an audience as possible.

The book is interactive, with 4 characters explaining in an everyday manner ‘How to…’, rendering any tricky moments in the kitchen easy & straight-forward.

The art in That Really Cool Italian Cookbook is original. The photos were taken in & around La Villa Scatola, in Le Marche, Italy. The literature is a mixture of interesting facts & opinions about modern day Italy, as well as appreciating the traditions & history that have made Italy what it is today: the stuff of fantasies - and there’s even a secret or two in there somewhere …

The creative team locked themselves away in a villa for several years, amidst oceans of sunflowers, sweet rolling hills and a gamut of Italian ingredients to try out enough recipes to, well, make a book of them.  It has taken circa 10 years from conception to (final) version of the book. Every ‘i’ has been crossed, and the ‘t’s dotted. Each recipe tried & tried again until a greater than satisfactory result was achieved.
